The paper assesses the production potential of Norway spruce, silver fir, Scots pine and European larch in a single-tree mixed stand which is intentionally left to its natural development without any intended thinning measures. At present, the stand aged 70 years is situated on a slightly sloped plateau, Forest District Olomucany, Training Forest Enterprise Krtiny, 17 km north of Brno. The unusual mixture of 4 coniferous species was characterized by high production potential on an acid site. A periodic increment in the studied period 1961 to 2001 amounted to 9.7 m3cntdotha-1cntdotyear-1. It is possible to consider the stand to be adequately stable because mortality ranged generally on the level of natural reduction of trees.
