The environment in architecture is divided into physical, social and cultural. Safe environment can be defined in terms of fire safety, hygiene or health unobjectionability (so-called healthy houses). These kinds of safe environment fall with the area of physical environment. The topic relates to the area of social environment – to what extent the environment (urban, of complex of buildings, structure or building details) contributes to local crime. It links to the European project Crime Prevention through Environmental Design, originating from America (in Europe also known as Designing Out Crime). Charter of European Cities and Towns holds a brief for a primary right of the European town citizens to a safe town – a site without crime, delinquencies and aggression. The rate of these privations in the area is significantly influenced by the quality of urbanism, town design and urban planning. The main objective of the article is to briefly introduce its history, keystones and to present it as a potential effective means of a partial solution of the current crime situation in the Slovak Republic.
