The paper summarizes major flows of toxic metals entering the forest soils of the Black Triangle, Northern Bohemia, i.e. the region with high degree of industrialization and environmental damage due to the coal mining and brown coal combustion in power plant stations. Basic characteristic of the forest ecosystem is given with special respect to the vulnerability of forest soil to accumulate or mobilize heavy metals (Cd, Pb, As, Cu and Zn). Metal flows are estimated on the basis of national statistics data, and average climatic observation. An experimental analysis of cadmium mobility is added to the study as a model example.
