The paper is focussed on soil mites in Danube floodplain forest near Gabcikovo dam. Study period included hydrologic changes in this area during the years 1991-1994. At three vertically different sites the changes in abundance, species composition, diversity and trophic structure of mites community were studied. The flood impact (or absence) resulted in changes concerning the abundance and trophic structure of mites community. A very strong flood decreased the abundance of epigeic mycetophagous mites, in the year of flood absence the abundance of this group increased. At study site influenced by a high level of underground water soil mites were characterized by changed community structure in comparison to those at higher situated sites. In the first year after the Danube river was damned the mites showed significant differences in species diversity between vertically different study sites.
